New York midnight
The client time zone string is America/New_York. The next reset is the next midnight in that zone.
The reset function tries the offset −04:00 first, then −05:00. It keeps the candidate whose New York clock reads that calendar date at hour 00. If neither matches, it falls back to −05:00.
When New York is on Eastern Daylight Time, local midnight is 04:00 UTC. When New York is on Eastern Standard Time, local midnight is 05:00 UTC. Those are the two offsets the client tries.
The epoch date in the client is 2026-07-16. The dive number is the number of whole days after that date, plus 1.
The 2026-10-22T01:42:25Z homepage render, still 2026-10-21 in New York, showed dive #98. From 2026-07-16 to 2026-10-21 is 97 days, and 97 + 1 = 98, which matches that rendered number.
